Healthy lifestyle triggers genetic changes

[ftp] Comprehensive lifestyle changes including a better diet and more exercise can lead not only to a better physique, but also to swift and dramatic changes at the genetic level, U.S. researchers said on Monday.

In a small study, the researchers tracked 30 men with low-risk prostate cancer who decided against conventional medical treatment such as surgery and radiation or hormone therapy.

The men underwent three months of major lifestyle changes, including eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products, moderate exercise such as walking for half an hour a day, and an hour of daily stress management methods such as meditation.

After the three months, the men had changes in activity in about 500 genes -- including 48 that were turned on and 453 genes that were turned off. The activity of disease-preventing genes increased while a number of disease-promoting genes, including those involved in prostate cancer and breast cancer, shut down, according to the study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Astronomers find batch of 'Super-Earths'

European researchers said on Monday they had discovered a batch of three "super-Earths" orbiting a nearby star, and two other solar systems with small planets as well. They said their findings, presented at a conference in France, suggest that Earth-like planets may be very common.

The BBC - An Imperial Tool

At a time of growing public disenchantment with the major media, millions now rely on alternate sources. Many online and print ones are credible. One of the world's most relied on is not - the BBC. It's an imperial tool, as corrupted as its dominant counterparts, been around longer than all of them, now in it for profit, and it's vital that people know who BBC represents and what it delivers.

Drug Giant Merck Caught in Massive Scientific Fraud

[ftp] Drug giant Merck has been caught red-handed in a scheme to deceive the FDA and the public over the integrity of its scientific studies, say top medical authorities. According to reports that were (amazingly!) published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and detailed in the Washington Post, Merck waged a "campaign of deception" to disguise its in-house study authors as independent scientists working for universities. This scheme made the studies appear independent and unbiased, allowing them to carry more apparent credibility to FDA officials, doctors and other scientists.

Evidence Confirms Electric Comet Model

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Clearly the worth of any scientific theory is based on its predictive ability, and in this respect the conventional 'dirty snowball' theory of comets currently championed by the scientific mainstream, which states they are giant balls of ice and dust, has failed miserably - both to predict, or even just convincingly accomodate, the torrent of new data gleaned from recent cometary research. To be blunt - the 'snowball' theory clearly appears to be wrong, and one doesn't need to be an accredited astronomer or astrophysicist to see it (on the contrary, that actually seems to be something of a handicap when it comes to an unbiased consideration of the evidence).

One simply needs (along with no better than reasonable eyesight - yes, really) a willingness to look at the evidence with an open mind, and to consider the likelihood that the electromagnetic force (which happens to be a 1000 billion billion billion billion times stronger than the force of gravity) plays a much greater role in the large-scale universe than the majority of modern cosmologists seem willing to accept. For them only the force of gravity is significant, but this dogmatic viewpoint is becoming increasingly untenable as our telescopes and space probes continue to reveal phenomena and structure in the universe which leave the 'gravity-only' model floundering for explanations. If the electric comet model, which proposes that comets are really electricly charged rocky bodies undergoing glow discharge as they move through a radial electric field generated by the sun, is shown to be correct it will have extremely far-reaching and dire consequences for the 'standard (bigbang) model' of the universe. In fact it will sound its death knell no less - although the actual burial would likely be some time in coming.

It appears that predictions made by Wal Thornhill and the Electric Comet model are being quickly confirmed, whether mainstream astronomers like it or not. In the end, it seems nature will be the arbiter of which theory is the most accurate and predictive.

This pdf file concisely summarises the latest evidence and clearly contrasts the predictive success of the electric model with the embarassing failure of the 'snowball' theory. Judge their relative merits for yourself.

"The remarkable properties of comets are not even remotely explicable by any of the numerous ad hoc assumptions of `modern' comet theory." - R A Lyttleton, FRS, Journey to the Centre of Uncertainty, Speculations in Science & Technology.

"Almost the entire body of astronomers can go wrong in a way that, in later years, seems absurd. To hear scientists talk today, you would think the first moment in human history in which nonsensical views are not widely held is now." - Fred Hoyle, Astronomer

"I have a lot of trouble with the academic world, the same as I do with the bible belt, it's the same kind of trouble. It's because they get a picture of this world which they are sure is right and they hang on to it for all they're worth". - John Dobson, Telescope Designer

The Cosmology Quest

A Critique of Modern Cosmology

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Contrary to popular opinion in the mainstream science media, all is not well in the field of cosmology. What you are looking at here is an image of galaxy NGC 7603 and its smaller companion galaxy. Because the data gathered from these galaxies, and their associated objects, completely defies commonly accepted theory (or 'how things are supposed to be'), it makes the cosmological mainstream very uncomfortable. So much so, in fact, that they will even stoop to the level of deliberately misrepresenting image data in an effort to suppress open discussion and further investigation of these objects. This is a desperate ploy, clearly born of fear.

"I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives." - - Leo Tolstoy

"The people that are in that field [cosmology]...treat it like a religion" - Kary B. Mullis, Noble Laureate

Reality and Consciousness
Turning the Superparadigm Inside Out

[ftp] The current superparadigm [the paradigm underlying all scientific paradigms] assumes that space, time and matter constitute the basic framework of reality, and consciousness somehow arises from this reality. The truth, it now appears, is the very opposite. As far as the reality we experience is concerned -- and this remember is the only reality we ever know -- consciousness is primary. Time, space and matter are secondary; they are aspects of the image of reality manifesting in the mind. They exist within consciousness; not the other way around.
Similar claims have often been made in spiritual teachings, particularly Indian philosophy. Patanjali's Yoga Sutra's, for example, speak of the entire world as chitta vritti, "the modifications of mind-stuff". When physicists hear statements such as this, and take them to be referring to the physical world, they are understandably perplexed and perhaps dismissive. But when we understand this to be a statement about the manifestation of our experienced world, it begins to make more sense. If we consider the reality we experience, then we have to accept that in the final analysis they are correct: Consciousness is the essence of everything--everything in the known universe. It is the medium from which every aspect of our experience manifests. Every form and quality we ever experience in the world is an appearance within consciousness.

Science has looked out into deep space, back into "deep time" to the beginning of creation, and down into the "deep structure" of the cosmos, the very essence of matter, and is proud to tell us that it finds no need nor place for God--the Universe seems to work perfectly well without his assistance. But whoever said God is to be found "out there", in the realm of space, time and matter? This is a very naive and old-fashioned interpretation of God. When spiritual teachings refer to God they are, more often than not, pointing towards the realm of inner experience, not some thing in the physical realm. If we want to find 'God', we have to look within, into the realm of "deep mind"--a realm that science has yet to explore.
